Aussie Cricket Legend Steve Smith Talks NFT's & Crypto
In this episode of Crypto Curious, your hosts Tracey, Craig and Blake speak to cricket legend Steve Smith who got into crypto and NFTs after hearing about it in 2017. He now holds about 20 NFTs, but his first purchases were from the gaming project Rumble Kong and NFTeams, which he bought on OpenSea about six months ago.
Smithy taught himself about buying NFTs using Ethereum and a Metamask wallet, and follows a few crypto WhatsApp groups and crypto Twitter. He now has his own upcoming NFT project in collaboration with Dan Carter of Glorious Digital, which includes the launch of 11 NFT series each with 11 individual artworks, to make a total of 121 NFTs. In addition to the actual artworks, the project will include added extras such as physical items like a signed cricket bat, or personalised offerings like a Zoom chat with fans.
Discussing his inspiration for buying NFTs, Steve says he has no specific strategy but picks projects he likes and takes tips from various online sources such as Gary Vee’s Instagram feed. Although he has a mild interest in the crypto market and some altcoins, his focus is mostly on NFTs and, as such, he prefers NFT coins like Ethereum and Solana over Bitcoin.
In closing, Steve discusses his upcoming cricket tour to Sri Lanka, the Australian cricket season and the world cup tournament..
