Bamboo Community Q & A: Jordan Franklin
Today we sit down with Jordan Franklin from the Happy Spender - who started sharing her early footsteps investing in crypto online. What started as a side hustle, became her full time job so read on and enjoy as she gives us an insight in to life as the Happy Spender...
Jordan thanks for taking the time to have a chat - tell us about your job, side hustle and how you developed them?
I actually quit my job last year! I needed a break from full-time work in the corporate world, so what was my side hustle (content creation) became my main hustle. Here are some of the ways I currently make money from @the_happyspender: sponsored content, social media partnerships, referrals and web3 consulting. I also look for every opportunity to earn passive income on my cryptocurrencies, like staking and lending.
Nice! What was your first Crypto investment?
On day 19 of my cryptocurrency journey on Tik Tok, I invested $6000 into 5 different cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Polkadot, VeChain and Cardano.
What made you choose those tokens?
I chose Bitcoin and Ethereum because I think of them as the blue chip stocks of the cryptocurrency world. Ethereum is still my favourite cryptocurrency.
What's your favourite thing to spend money on?
Spending time with people I love. And cryptocurrency. I love the technology and find the cryptoverse such an exciting space.
What has been your best crypto investment?
Ethereum! Ethereum is an amazing smart contract blockchain and the Ethereum cryptocurrency has so much utility. It's that one blockchain that can do everything.
What has been your worst crypto investment?
All of my cryptocurrency investments have been in the red and the green at different points in time, so none of them are the worst. They are all great cryptocurrency projects. I avoid hype coins and invest in cryptocurrencies that have real value in the blockchain ecosystem.
What advice would you give to your younger self about investing?
If you can afford the online shopping spree, you can afford to invest. Don't be embarrassed to ask people how to invest, they will help you.
What prompted you to start your investing journey?
I wanted to make money without having to work for it. In other words, I wanted to make my money work for me. I just didn't know how. Growing up, we never had dinner table conversations about money or investing. I only discovered that investing was an option for someone like me after spending time with wealthy people during uni. Back then, access to amazing content and information about investing wasn't as readily available.
Is there anything you would have done differently when you first started investing in crypto?
No. The faster you fail, the faster you learn! Don't be afraid to explore, make mistakes and take calculated risks if it means you are learning and progressing. Celebrate the wins, embrace the losses and crack on.
What are your main roadblocks to investing? How are you addressing them?
My biggest roadblock to investing right now is money. My income is inconsistent because I chose to step away from full-time work, take a break and try something new. Right now, I invest as much as I can on a weekly basis and only after I have covered my living expenses.
