Thanks for taking the time to have a chat Tash, tell us a bit about your day to day job?
I don't really have one specific job these days! I earn income from a variety of things such as content creation, disability support work, marketing and social media for other businesses.
Tell us a bit about how you developed those diverse side hustles...
I have a positively geared investment property which means my rent is more than my mortgage and costs. I also receive dividends and income from staking some of my crypto. I've rented my apartment out for about a year now and was lucky with the timing- I bought it during covid lockdowns and rented it straight after. As for income from staking and dividends, it depends! I have around 150k invested in ETFs with dividends averaging 4% P.A and 15k in crypto, of which 5k is staked for rewards ranging from 5-23% RPY.
As for how- none of this happened overnight. I've been investing for 6 years now.
That's amazing! What was your first Crypto investment?
Bitcoin and Ethereum! Put $1000 in each back in May 2021 when the price dropped overnight.
What made you choose them?
Applied the same reasoning as my ETF strategy- they had large market caps and I understood them.
Ahh what has been your best crypto investment?
It was Solana! but Bitcoin and Ethereum are both still positive for me despite the recent drop in prices.
What has been your worst?
CAKE which is now down 72.8%. Luckily I only put in a small amount.
What's your favourite thing to spend money on?
Experiences and flights! I love going to visit friends and exploring.
So exciting now the world is opening up again...What advice would you give to your younger self about investing?
Just start! there is no perfect investment plan and you can modify it as you go.
What prompted you to start your investing journey?
I travelled a lot when I first turned 18 but to do this I had to budget and save. The idea of my money making money without having to work was super exciting. My parents were also super open about their finances and investment properties.
That's epic! Is there anything you would have done differently when you first started investing in crypto?
Invest more or invest earlier? I guess we say that with everything through.
What are your main roadblocks to investing? How are you addressing them?
Analysis paralysis - too many choices so not actually doing anything. Looking at the opportunity cost and accepting that not choosing is a choice itself really helped. I have time to make mistakes and usually starting is better than waiting for the perfect time or plan.
