What Crypto Did - Recap on Crypto News
Welcome to the first episode of a new monthly segment from Crypto Curious called "What Crypto Did." In these monthly segments, your hosts Tracey, Blake and Craig will discuss the latest news stories that have been filling your feeds over the past few weeks.
We kick off with the biggest story that has been dominating the news lately, the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Cryptocurrency has been catapulted into the spotlight as a result of the invasion, with the humanitarian aid fund Relief receiving over $50 million worth of donations in cryptocurrency.
Next up we have the bizarre story of the alleged Bitfinex hackers, an unknown writer and rapper Heather Morgan (AKA Razzle Khan) and her husband Elya Lichtenstein. American law enforcement agents recovered 94,000 Bitcoin in a raid on the couple, who they claim stole the Bitcoin from Bitfinex in 2016.
Anybody watching the NFL Super Bowl half-time show would have seen three high-profile cryptocurrency ads from Crypto.com and FTX, both of which featured famous celebrities. A third ad from Coinbase featured a scannable QR code moving around the screen like the old DVD logo, and which drew so much attention the exchange briefly crashed.
And in a final surprising turn of events, famous investor and long-time Bitcoin critic Warren Buffett is finally getting into crypto. The billionaire investor has sold $3B of shares in VISA and Mastercard and reportedly invested over $1 billion into a Bitcoin-friendly fintech bank in Brazil. His associate Charlie Munger, however, remains skeptical and says he's proud to have never invested in crypto.
In closing, Tracey discusses Twitter's integration of Ethereum for tipping fellow users on the platform.
